that special day...

when the week before you left that dirty chain in a old jar filled with degreaser.

i usually wake up early early like around 5am. open that jar up. rinse it off and let it air dry for a bit while polishing my bike. put that sucker back on a lube it up. make a nice omlette, toasted bagel and tea. have breakfast while staring at my bike, trying not to eat too fast in anticipation for the early morning ride to follow.

for me, nothing beats a nice clean chain's first ride on a beautiful morning in hawaii

Lyle, are the jars labelled with days of the week, a la certain sets of panties? More seriously, are you serious? Do you put the chains on with a master link or a chainbreaker?

Learn how to break/reattach a chain correctly and you'll never have a problem..

Never clean a chain like that. Degreaser will get into the rollers, where the grease won't be able to get back in (different viscosities). Just use a brush and keep it on the bike.

Duh. That's the point. It comes back out carrying all the little crusties and dissolved lube. What lube are you using that's so thick that it won't go back into the chain?

I hate cleaning chains (not that there is anything wrong those that enjoy it). I do it once when the chain is new, then use dry lube (Boeshield, Finish Line) and wipe with a rag (every week or so). Not much to clean.

Why would you not want lubrication on your chain? Also, it is true. If you drive the lube out of the rollers with degreaser, you're going to have a hard time getting it back in.

I been told and have read from numerous sources not to soak in degreaser. This was after I soaked my chains in an automotive hot tank with engine blocks.

Okay, I lied, I actually have 14 jars, labeled with days and AM/PM, so I can run a new chain twice a day.
I keep 7 jars at work though.. so I didn't count them.
