How do you store your bikes?

If this discussion has already happened somewhere else, link me and we can close this one. I tried to search for one to no avail.

The amount of bikes in my apartment is in the process of tripling. I have a Rush Hour, my girlfriend just bought a new road bike, and I'm soon buying a Frejus from a friend for a conversion project. We live in a pretty small place, and I'm wondering how everyone stores their multiple bikes. I'd love to hang them on the wall by the top tube so they don't stick out too far.

Pictures and/or links to products are welcome.

Between the sheets.

or

If you have high ceilings you can go to the hardware store and get a pully system where you can hang them.

Go to a bike track or wait ten minutes in this thread **edit:see cf4l's post** and you'll see an excellent system for storing bikes that involves hooks on the wall, about 6 feet up. You hang the bikes by their wheels and perpendicular to the wall; it's been established that this is perfectly safe. If you alternate the bikes between pointing up and pointing down, you can cram more in a smaller space since the handlebars are the widest part. Each hook costs a buck or two and you may also want to invest in a 2*4 to put the hooks into and then mount to the wall.

I used to have 4-5 project bikes at one time, converting old road bikes to SS's can be pretty addicting. The best way to store them (with limited space) is to place them upside down. Alternate their placement- ie line the first bike by the drops, second by the seat, third by the drops, fourth by the seat, etc

You can place them within inches of each other- it's a great way to store them if you don't have much space. Just leave the bike you use for transportatin on the edge, so you can easily get to it.

I have 8 bike on home depot hooks on one side of the garage. In the middle of the garage, toards the back, I have one of the performance floor to ceiling racks that can hold another 4. And one in my repair stand. And one in my trunk ( a tri bike that I set up as a cruiser, it's the only bike I can fit in my trunk, damn being tall and having a del sol)

damnnn.. I've got 3 in my dining room, and my wife hates it. She's slowly being convinced to let me put hooks in the wall. For some reason, she doesn't like the idea of them becoming permanent fixtures on the main floor. Wait till she sees the Colnago...

Thanks for all the responses. I think oktokrewl's solution looks pretty snazzy...that's kinda what I had in mind. Keep 'em coming. I can't be the only person with this problem.
