yeah

that mother is PROPRIETARY when it comes to adjusting. That is the old AX or EX-style Shimano headset from the 1900s!
haha

supposedly you can use a 32mm headset wrench BUT YOU MUST GO SLOW as you might ovalize the topnut.

There is a starfish-specific wrench, but you can get away with a regular wrench on those. Pitboss, do you mean actually ovalize, or just round off?

Dude, ALL NJS components have to be serviced by NJS certified keirin repair technicians. Any tinkering, adjusting, polishing, greasing, repacking and other changes performed by non-NJS mechanics will void the warranty.

I have a bike with a shimano 600 headset that looks like the same setup. I was just really gentle with big pliers (wrapped the whole thing in rags to minimize scratching). Stupid shimano and their stupid pointlessly proprietary 80s designs.

i had a similar shimano headset on an older road bike that I had and I used a 32mm headset wrench to tighten, but I had to tighten it very carefully like you've mentioned.

Yep, there's a special tool. You need 2 of them, of course. Sorry, I can't loan you mine.

I just looked and there's no Shimano part number on it.

+1 to the "rag wrap" idea.

The D-A one maybe, but there are way more of the 600's out there. What the heck would be track-specific about a headset anyway?

you can use 2 standard 32mm headset wrenches to adjust it. just dont be ham-fisted and you'll be fine.
