someone tell me it's okay....
aluminum. carbon fork. multiple gears. brakes.
i know i needed it, but i also need someone to tell me it's okay to have it. i was at least holding out to have steel and some vintage love...oh, well.
oh, and i'll still be riding my trusty workday warhorse, the fixed gear, for work.

well, it's more weird to me that i have a modern road bike. a dream road bike would be, say, an old de rosa with full campy record or something.
cannondale with ultegra/105 mix isn't bad, though. just so unlike anything i thought i'd ever own, i'm having to get used to the fact that i now do.

heh...i'd be out riding it and getting used to the feel of my new steed, but i need road shoes so i can, you know, use the clipless pedals. i've used clips and straps for a while and no longer have cycling shoes.

actually, i may try those out. i used to live in road shoes, but since i've started just wearing sneakers, i may just go that route. thing is, i'm thinking about putting on some look-style pedals i have. i don't think you can put look-style cleats on mountain shoes, can you?

Of course it's ok, and you shouldn't look to these dorks
for validation. Anyone who only owns a fixed gear bike
is doing themselves a disservice.
My Giant TCR0 with full Dura Ace weighs less and cost
as much as my fixed gear.

road bikes rule. with something like a c-dale and 105 you're getting about the most performance for dollar available. all anyone really needs is a decent alu frame, carbon fork, and some 105 or veloce components. you'll love it.

I HIGHLY recommend using clipless with your road bike. Waaaay more efficient.
Oh, and congratulations on the C-dale! I just got a Trek 2100 yesterday - my first nice road bike. I'm so excited to go on a long road ride tomorrow.

First you leave the northwest, now this?
What's going on Ian?
Just kidding, new road bikes are fun, I just wish I had the money for one myself.

I truly love my modern road bike. I have a Look 555 that's a dream to ride, it's so comfortable and I find myself doing 75-100 miles rides when I just planned on going out for a couple of hours I like being on it that much.
You need a shoe with a 3 bolt pattern to fit Look or SPD-SL cleats, but good road shoes are so nice to ride in. If you hunt around you can often find deals on last years model at good prices, I paid £55 for a pair of carbon Shimano R130's that are a good quality shoe.
If you plan on long rides, I would go with good road shoes as opposed to MTB shoes, as they are generally a lot lighter, and after all they are rotating mass in the same way that wheels are so less weight here makes more of a difference overall.
