"yeah, track stand!" - shouting in Columbus, OH

so I'm here in Columbus from NY for the weekend, sadly bikeless. Walk out of the downtown Hyatt and immediately see a fixer track standing at the light. I yell encouragement to him and apparently not used to the disruption kinda fell over (sorry about that, I was excited). Then 1/2 block up the street another fixer rides by. What the hell? What's with Columbus OH? I didn't know OH rolled like that.

I'm in the downtown Hyatt and wondering if anybody can recommend some slick bike shops in the downtown area? Anybody ever have any lucky finds at the local Salvation Army's, Veterans of America etc...?

Columbusites!

theres only one downtown bike shop (that i know of), B1 Bicycles, ive yet to go though apparently its very FG-oriented. 124 East Long St. https://www.myspace.com/b1bicycles

if you need any more advice on stuff to do in columbus, id be happy to advise.

but yeah, it seems like the fixie fad has hit full force, though there's far too many awful conversions out there

b1 bicycles is downtown, on long street between 3rd and 4th. oh, and that wasn't me at the light. i'm always surprised by how many average people, though, are pleased to see someone trackstanding at a light.

cool thanks. yeah, I was drinking outside over on High Street and a couple packs of crazies went by with a few singlespeeds/fixies. I counted over 10 singlespeed/fixies tonight including a fixed Ross locked up (terrible lock BTW) on High street up near the convention center.

I'm suprised at how much I care - I just can't help myself.

You don't have to lock up a Ross.

as i was walking by a party of the sewing and convention people i heard, "let's get a bottle of wine." and the reply was, "nawwww, let's do cocktails, it'll do the trick quicker."

it's my 3rd year waiting on them, and they love their booze.

thanks, columbus is taking away my gun and truck OH stereotype a bit.

well, if you were headed towards the city and it was around 5:15[give or take 15] and somebody yelled then that was probably you. what restaurant do you work at?

actually yes. The lady (and a friend of ours) designs some stuff. And yeah, there are complete wack jobs here. Thankfully, I'm not allowed to go into the convention center and get smothered by knit Winnie-the-pooh sweaters.

i work at a restaraunt called bluefish. it's on high and goodale, right next to the convention center. it is a seafood restaraunt with and asian influence.

also, that was not me at the light. 45 minutes earlier would have been me.

like, beavder creek. it's my partner's sister's graduation, so we have to go to her sister's ceremony, get bored, dress up fancy and go to a restaurant we can't afford and stay overnight in the burbs...(

at least i'm bringing these:

also, i don't recommend baer wheels. yeah, he's more established than b1 and has more stock, but ol' davy b. just doesn't give a ****. you need your bike fixed by tuesday? it'll probably be done a week from thursday. if you're lucky. and he'll make fun of you when you come pick it up.

When I left Ohio almost a year ago, fixed/SS was pretty popular, sounds like it's out of control. I'm coming back in about a month. Jyeah.

Is that bike group still together, I forget what it was called, but it was ran out of a garage. Seemed pretty cool--they sold bikes etc.

I wonder if Skambo is still a hot spot for bikers.

Also, Columbus is a GREAT place to live, but kind of sucks just to visit.

I also don't think people who have never been to Columbus know what's up. I think they think it's just a ****ty little city.

Did Spring Fest happen this year? I missed it and I usually always go to it for at least a bit. I'm sort of pissed.
