1/8" chain masterlink use on track chain
I am totally bored at work and am reading the Barnetts manual chapter on chains. It says " With the exception of track bikes, virtually all bikes without deraillers have a chain with a master link."
I use bmx chains with a master link on my fixed and never had a problem.
If you use a track chain do you have to use a chain tool or is it ok to get by with a master link?

if you go with one of those high-end japanese track chains (izumi, etc) it wont come with a master link like you're used to seeing. i forget exactly how it looks, but there is a link with a little bolt or screw that holds the whole thing together.
if the chain you're using came with a master link, it'll be fine to use. i havent had any problems with mine. it's held up fine to the little bit of abuse i can manage to give it while racing.

I sprint with a TAYA chain that has a masterlink. Also have an Izumi with another kind of master link. holds fine. I heard Connex makes fines 1/8 chains with superb masterlinks.
