Yeah, he said he used athletic tape... It starts out as white, and it is kind of like a cloth feeling.

He said he put an old tube in the bars for padding, then wrapped it with athletic tape. I dig the look,

props on the d.i.y. I hope regular white bar tape doesn't get brown that fast.

I removed my grips and taped my bars, since I caught myself riding in the non-gripped areas the most.

Anyway, I was just looking for some feedback, as it is my first tape job. I am pretty satisfied with it for the most part. I wish it were completely symmetrical, though.

Also, I am posting this here because it is a Kilo TT, and I didn't want to bother starting a new thread for something this small.

Thanks. Using shellac really helps keep it clean (and a little shiny). I didn't use it this time because I'm trying a more grippy feel, and also I want the tape to get dirty. Gotta match, after all.

why mount the brake lever there, and why only on the rear wheel? you've already got a computer on the bars, so using the "no bar clutter" argument is toast, why not toss the lever up there, and actually be able to stop?

Some people do it as a way to not be ticketed for not having a break.

I have seen people with only a back break and the lever underneath and attached to their seat.

grab the lever, and the braking force shoves the one hand you have on the bars forward, and sends you flying....seems perfectly normal to me.

I understand why HE thinks it's okay, I'm just amazed that someone would go out of their way to be legal, and still be unsafe.

well i seat skid to stop so i dont ever need to use a brake for stopping (just like many of you who run brakeless)~ and so yes the brake is there because bike cops here in Davis are really anal about you having a brake so i cant sly going brakeless and be as cool as you all~ thats'al~

lots of love guys, lots of love~

Yeah, those Davis bike cops warrant any sort of aversion. While I personally think that a standard front brake works well (and so that's what I apply to my bike whenever I find myself in Davis), whatever floats your boat (actually I've seen a couple with similar, though not exact, set-ups in Davis).

i havent had this problem locally, nor have i heard of it. a lot of the kids around me run brakeless, myself included, without any problems. im wondering though...isnt a brake a "stopping mechanism" and if so, doesnt your drive train count? and what about coaster brakes, how can they know you do/dont have one?

also, whats hanging from your seat?

all in all i like your setup. good *****, meng.

looks like it may be a piece of chain inside an old innertube to protect the seat from theft, with possibly a piece of cloth underneath to dampen any rattle?

nope I am just hoping for no ridiculous colors. If it is the just like the BI blue I don't see how they could put any other color, but I did send them an email and I will let you know if I ever hear back.

its either black or white. i wouldnt think they would put black on the darker colors, but they did on the wheat, and it worked out, i think white wouldve looked crappy on the wheat frame.

i'd put my money on white for the blue bike.

Just got my tracking info and I will most likely be one of the first ones to get mine once they ship since I live no more than 30 miles from the shipping location!

As for the decals I would probably be fine with white or black although i would prefer white.

now if I can just find a brake set up with only a right side brake lever then I will be pretty much set

I was talking to the owner of one of the bike shops in Davis, and he said that when he mentioned that to the cop who pulled him over, the officer said that, supposing his chain breaks, then he will have no method of stopping. Or something.
Since they've been going after cyclists (they'll pull you over if you don't put a foot down at a stop, even if you trackstand for 10 minutes), they've hired an additional bike cop, so I really just think they're abusing bike law because they can make a lot of easy money.
