Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? What do I need for a brake?

Im looking to put on a front brake on my IRO as its my first fixed gear.

Nashbar only sells the brake in parts, so Im wondering if all these parts match up, and if they will together, build a complete brake (with mounting equipment and all)

https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...0Brake%20Cable
https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...0Road%20Brakes

ALSO: For the shimano brake levers, what size do i need for a 50cm IRO Mark V frame with 700c wheels?

And if I want to make the brake cable shorter, how do I go about doing it?

You need all that **** plus inner cable. It will work together.

To shorten the brake cable you need to cut the housing and the inner cable. Cutting housing requires a dremel or other special tool but you can cut inner cable with regular cutters.

The 105 calipers oughta work OK with your frame but you could look into its brake reach to be sure. Make sure the levers will clapm on to whatever size bars you're getting.

for the end part, do I just pinch it off, then pinch it back on? And are the parts I linked the right ones needed?

You can cut cable housing with cutting pliers and finish the end w/ a file.
Hacksaw (and file) will also work.
