Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

It's all a bit subjective though, I guess -- especially for left handers.

Anyway, I'm gonna watch this kick arse vid again.
I have one RHD car and one LHD car, and I would agree with you. Shifting does not need as much precision of motion as steering.

Great video, and yeah the last few seconds are damn fine. As much as I love watching skilled riders duck and weave through traffic, it's the emergency situations that really show how amazing they are at handling their bikes.

Did anyone see Lucas Brunelle's couch bike video? Where they ride it on the freeway? Crazy ****, Lucas is just insane... And than the Mexican highway on the road bike when he's passing all the cars was balls out insanity as well. Anyways something about the London video seemed like a lot more crisp, realistic filming as compared to the sort of hazy, detached NYC "Bike Messengers Are On Crack" video and some of the others... maybe it's just me though.

Oxford road during rush hour was fun and I recommend flying your bike there for sure. Amazing people and the London messengers were the nicest I've met yet.

Man, the skitching at the end of the Mexico video is INSANE! Its hard to judge speed in MPH from a video, but its clearly fast enough that one minor pothole and the guy would have been instant roadkill.

As far as driving is concerned, the fact that you carried a weapon in the right hand is important, but there were many other factors: the right hand is used for greeting people, size of carts, where drivers prefer to sit in their carts, papal edicts, etc.

Wikipedia has some decent references: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving..._left_or_right

That medieval history minor just paid off big time.
One of the (many) cool things that I found it Tokyo was everyone apart from westerners walks on the left. None of this sidestepping dance that seems to happen when you are walking straight towards someone on the pavement.
