I got a nice cog tooth puncture on my thumb several months back. That was the day that I noticed I had no pain killers or bandages in my house. I think there is still a blood spatter on the wall from my clawing at the paper towel roll...

I hate those chain cleaner machine deals.

I got my ear nearly sliced off when I was barely old enough to remember. (3 or so)
The big kids were ramp jumping over me in my front yard and one caught my ear between the chain and the rear cog.

One of my girlfriends back in high school lost part of one of her pinkie fingers from the first joint down as a two year old. Her cousin was cranking away on an excersize bike and this girl stuck her finger right in the chain and had this peice cut right off, permanent. Her dad used to get her to pretend she was picking her nose by sticking that stub pinkie in her nostril as a kid.

I think about this story and all of these hideous photos every time I'm cleaning the chain on my fix. Not even a close call(yet).

Wait, was that during a jump in the air?
If so, nice move... 10 style points. At least it's better than a BMX peg in the face

If it doesn't sever the finger, your chain's too loose!

Glad to hear you're ok.

It was quite a while ago when i ran two of my fingers into a bmx chainring trying to check the chain tension while riding. The doctors had two rip off one finger nail in two seperate peices to scrub the grease out. I think it was like 5 sutures. I had always thought i was the only one.

There wasn't any such thing as BMX pegs back then.
If fact, there wasn't any such thing as BMX bikes.

These were the days of bannana seats, sissy bars, ape hanger handle bars, and license plates with your name on it.

By the way, my ear is almost healed now.

anyone see the movie bloodtrails? if you want to see someone get their throat slashed by a chainring as the bike is flying through the air, then i suggest you watch this movie.

EDIT: well the stars make my terse saying rather useless, I was infering from your comment that you resembled a part of a woman's anatomy because you, unlike real men, did not hurt yourself with your drivetrain and pour a chemical solvent over it to avoid infection.

Figure I'd jump in with tonight's exercise in chain safety.

15 years of working on motorcycles and the stupid bike does me in...

Luckily I was wearing a latex glove and it didn't break the glove so it stayed clean. Let the gangrene begin.

My friend did this last semester. 1/8" punch right through his index finger.

We went to the emercency room and the doctor put one stitch in. She did this through the break in the nail, what an artiste!

Back in the day we called this a "Boston Trevor" to commemorate one of the forum's own.

We still use the term around the CoOp when it happens there

What about fistula? Or is that considered a puncture wound?

I think avulsions, while causing more damage, tend to be cleaner than punctures, as the latter would "punch in" all sorts of bacteria deep into the tissues.
