Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Ridiculous price though for that setup, I'd buy it, sell it, and buy a really nice frame or something.

It's a single-speed, not a fixed gear, so the gear ratio can really be as high as you want it without stressing the rider's knees *that* much. Once you get into using your legs to keep your speed under control (rather than the brakes on a freewheel-equipped bike), then it starts to become an issue.

If you knew your post was more or less completely devoid of truth why did you feel the need to make it?

Far more people have hurt their knees mashing on geared bikes then have trying to stop on fgs. Riding around on 104" isn't good for anyones knees.

Dutret,
stop being a ******.

I could ride a SS at 104"
I could not ride a fg at 104"

you know it, I know it, everyone knows it. fixed is harder on a persons knees at extreme gearings

It may be a bit harder on your knees if you insist on using your legs to stop. That is why I said his post was more or less completely devoid of truth not completely devoid of truth.

That does not change the fact that 104 is way to high for any reasonable person to be riding ss OR fixed.

More importantly though the notion that you can safely push whatever you want if you have a freewheel is dangerous and flat out wrong.

Even a ****** can be right. Mashing is hard on your knees... doesn't matter if you can coast or not.

From analytic cycling- forces on rider calculator:
Going 8m/s at 100 rpm w/other default values:

Pedal Speed 1.78 m/s
Average Pedal Force 156.5 kg m/s2

drop that down to 50 rpm:
Pedal Speed 0.89 m/s
Average Pedal Force 312.9 kg m/s2

Mashing along at low cadences makes you put much more force on your knees period.
