    Finally found it...

So I go back into the thrift store to see about the red schwin they've had for about 3 months now. And out of the corner of my eye I see an old looking gold bike.

It was a Nishiki kokusia, from the 1970's. And it's complete wheel to wheel original. After a little haggling (yes, I haggled at the thrift store), it's mine. The frame is slightly smaller than my road bike, but this should be good for learn to get on and off a fixed gear.

The only problem is that it's pretty nice for a 1970's bike. I pulled out my CO2 tank and filled up the tires.. and with the exception of need new brake pads (I think these are orginals) it rides pretty nice.

Cool, nice find. Out of curiosity what was the final price?

Well, I've run into a problem. It's turning out to be a little bit rare. And this puts me into a fix. If it's rare, and worthy, I may want to hold onto for that purpose, wich puts me in a bind, because currently there's three bikes in the garage.. a fourth (the fixed gear) would be a problem.

I know I saw a nishiki at my Thrift store the other day, I was tempted to buy it. Was not in best shape needed new tires brakes etc.. standard things. It was a girls bike sloping top tube, but the top tube was split so actualy was two tubes coming down..

How about fixing it, but keep the stock parts on-hand if you ever want to convert it back.

Nahh. Not something I'd do. It's an all or nothing.

Yours did come out sweeet. If I do convert it, I won't paint it black (gott be original!).

You got a decent deal, I paid... a little bit more.

the paint was so bad, you couldn't read the decals anymore. but it was well worth it. i enjoyed working on it.
