Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Rim/Hub question

Ok Disclaimer: I am very new to this whole bicycle / fixed gear thing so if my terminology isn't up to par I'm sorry. If my question is incredibly stupid I apologize as well. I am yet to build my first fixie.

I was wondering if there are any single speed/fixed hubs with 40 holes out there? I want to have a 40 hole rear wheel. I already have the rim.

Thnx

I've checked out alot of hub manufacturers online and the only thing I can find is Phil wood tandem rear hub but i would then have to convert it and I'm not sure if that would even work not to mention the price tag. or finding a vintage 40 hole fixed rear hub. I was told alot of vintage british bikes came with 36/40. I might just be SOL.

Any reason why you must use that 40 hole rim?

To tell you the truth I saw a really cool 40 spoke rear wheeled fixie in seattle but it was laced in a design I had never seen before. 2 trailing 2 leading. I could do it with a 32 as well. or maybe a 3 leading 3 trailing 36 hole.
