180 on the drive side and 160 on the non drive side. It averages out to 170mm.
You can go a lot faster this way but can only turn left.

i have 170 on one bike and 165 on another. when i started riding 165s, i felt an immediate, significant difference. i'm also short, and for that bike i had geared down. it was definitely easier to spin, especially when i was in the drops - previously, it felt like i was about to knee myself in the throat. 165s are much better for spinning, for me.

My bike came with 165. I thought they were going to be hard to climb with, but so far they're no problem, and fast spinning is much easier.

my street track bike = 165
track track bike = 170
road bike = 172.5
i would never race w/ 165s but that's just me.

also take into consideration how high/low you're bottom bracket are. Is you're bike a
conversion or an actual track bike?

i've ridden both on my 2 conversions..
170s currently on a frame with a high-ish bottom bracket..
i'd like to go back to 165 to see how my spin is affected

I roll with 170s on my conversion. I can't push it really hard in the corners, of course, but if i wanted to go really fast i would get gears.

Mine came with 170's...they seem fine as I am used to 175's on my road bikes. I agree with the botttom bracket height...higher BB allows longer crank although I hear 165's do spin well. Since my bike is just a commuter...no real climbing I may try 165's next. I'm 6' 1"

A few degrees less of leg flexion/extension with shorter cranks might help the knees. 5cm less distance at the top AND bottom of the stroke may be yourNO knee pain ticket

I ride 170's on my Cervelo, and will be riding 170's on my IRO. Will prob get 165's for my Guerciotti as thats the most common thing I've seen.

I havent had much of an issue as far as pedal strike with 175s that came on my fixed. But when I put LL sized toe clips on it, I now get a lot of overlap and worry im gonna run my foot into the wheel eventually. So im debating changing to 165 or 170.
I know its not a lot of difference size-wise. But I have pretty long legs and think the more legnth I can manage the better I can utilize them.
So I guess my question is: Will anyone but a bike aficionado be able to tell the difference between 165 and 170mm cranks? And should I compensate for them being shorter by upping my rear cog 1 tooth or so (I currently ride 49x17)?

i used to ride 175s on my fuji track, always seemed a bit long. now im riding on 165s, match that with the bareknuckles high bb and it feels like im riding a tall bike. i can notice a differance, a little harder to go up hills but nothing to worry about.
