Stolen saddle leads to quest for rare seatpost.
So some total funknut stole my B17 and 24mm french seatpost off of my 80s Peugeot premiere today.
Of course - these posts are made out of purest unobtainium. Really piddled and trying everywhere to find a replacement - anyone got any pointers at all. My last ditch plans are:
1) go to Brick lane market sunday and see if they've got one (prolly mine anyway)
2) hunt for uber cheap pug on ebay then polish up weinmann parts to sell on and hopefully make money back
3) get a 25mm alu post and then lose a month trying to find someone that will machine a mm off it.
Anyone got one lying around or any pointers on how to get my beloved Poogy back on teh autostrada?
Ta. (pics of bike in sig - take pity on me!)

Just get a 25 mm and take it to a machine shop. They shouldn't charge you much labor and they can probably do it while you are standing there.

Did you ask over at the Classic Forum? Seems like someone over
there is likely to have one laying around, or know of some clever
hack.

Yes, finding "French" sized seat posts can be a pain. Yet, I would think a Paris bikeshop must have boxes of these things in the back room. The French bikes with the tiny diameter seat posts sold by the millions during the '70's. Is there such a thing as a "French E-Bay"?

Try asking on londonfgss.com, maybe someone can direct you to a local source?

I wouldn't have a full mm machined off of a seatpost. I mean the walls of mine are like 2-3mm... Losing 20-25% (or even 15%) of the wall sounds like a terrible idea.
I'd try 1) google 2) ebay 3) classic&vintage

That's a lot of shim...Won't it slip down all the time?

Not if you happen to find a well-fitting shim that extends down long enough and isn't particularly slippery.

There's a shop called Via in Philadelphia that probably carries what you need (they specialize in vintage parts and seem to have at least one of everything). They ship internationally, but it might not be cheap. Here's their website: https://www.bikeville.com/frames.html, but it would probably be best to call.
