Broken seats
I've busted two seats at the rails:
(Full story here: https://sdfixed.blogspot.com/2007/05/...-look-fat.html)
I am wondering.. what is wrong that I keep destroying seat rails?

My only thought are that its either just an unlucky coincidence or that you're torquing the bejesus out of the seat post bolts and are actually damaging the rails.

Did you use the same seatpost with the two?
They broke at the exact same spot, middle of the left rail. So it might be some anomaly with the left side clamp of the post.
Or an astronomical fluke. Overtightening and fatness come to mind as risk factors, also possibly a saddle clamp that bends the rails a bit (e.g. upper clamp side is narrower than the lower).

Snapping a rail is not common at all. I can see bending a rail if there is a lot of leverage put on it, or even snapping the seat bolt, but this is a first that I have seen. I can't even imagine torquing the seat bolt could do it.
Well I guess I am of no help, sorry.

Once you are in an investigative state of mind, take a good look at the damn thing and see where/how it broke. If you know as much about metallurgy as me (=0) then the how is not gonna be easy to uncover but the where is easy as castrating yourself during a skid attempt: compare the position of the crack to the dirt or clamping marks on the rail... did it break inside the clamp or right where it exits etc. That should give a clear indication of what happened.
