sizing help

would a 53cm frame be too much of a stretch for someone whos 5'9-5'11?

dookie 06-30-07 09:23 PM

can i wear a size 9 shoe? i'm 175lb.

BuddyMike 06-30-07 09:27 PM

Check the your leg inseam and check the standover for the bike. This is a quick, and ony of many, way to see if it is a decent size for you. I'm going to have to say get the next size up or the one after that. What frames are you looking at?

andre nickatina 06-30-07 09:27 PM

It's definitely in your range, but it's the seat tube and the top tube that you need to take in consideration, not just the former...

doofo 06-30-07 09:58 PM

id guess that would be a negative stretch

but i dont have access to your body :(

I'm about 5'9", and I ride a 53cm Soma Rush. I think it's probably a tad small, and my next frame will be larger, but it's not bad. It's comfortable.

I always wonder though if I had a larger frame that fit perfectly if I'd be even more comfortable, so who knows.

i mean i just bought a frame on impulse and then was like "oh wait that might me pretty uncomfortable" .but i guess i feel better now?

5'9" to 5'11"... isn't that too tall for a 53cm?

I'm 5'7" and I ride a 53cm.

I'm the same height and ride the 55cm soma rush. I'm very comfortable on it. I could have easily fit on the 57cm.

alright i'll build it up nice and see if it fits me and if not sell it on ebay.

doofo 07-01-07 01:36 PM

i hope you are closer to 5'9"

Yeah, I've been noticing lately all my friends who are about the same size ride alot bigger bikes, and after riding a bunch of theirs I definitely notice it. I need a new bike! :(

yeah im your same height but i ride a 57 soma. the TT length was soooo much nicer. (with the 100 stem length+bullhorns)

caloso 07-02-07 04:04 PM

It depends. You may have to play around with a longer stem or seatpost set back. What's the TT? And do you have long/short legs, long/short torso? Do you like to ride with a flat back? Do you adhere to KOPS?

piratelove 07-02-07 04:06 PM

I think a 57 might be a tad large for me, but I definitely need something bigger. I think I'm going to get a Pista Concept/Felt/Fuji Track Pro or something along those lines to race and keep the Soma as the street/beater bike.

caloso 07-02-07 04:09 PM

Oh, and FWIW, I'm 5'10 and my best fitting bike is 52cm CTC on the seat tube and 54.5cm CTC on the top tube with a 11cm stem.
