perfect gear ratio: seattle
seen a few riders here and there.
wondering what everyone is riding at.

i'd bet dollars to dingleberries that everybody is not riding at the same gear ratio. people have wildly different preferences - some people love to spin gears in the 60-70" range, and other people like pushing 80+". many other people vary a lot, based on bike, wheel, weather, mood, and spot in their little bit of training.
find a gear. if you like it, stick with it. if you don't, change it. nobody can tell you what gear to ride. try low seventies and move around from there.

ah, but no matter, im in seattle today. this question is in relation to placement of hills, not where i am from.
anyway, there are numerous claims to the suicide capitol fame.
its a tossup between las vegas, seattle, and a few others.

75 gear inches is pretty versatile for the city. You can spin it out at a pretty high MPH and climb most hills not too bad as long as you got decent legs.

42/17 (with 35c tires).
I couldn't go any higher and still make it up the hills. Commute 20 miles each way with hills on each end. I spin pretty fast on the flats (and up to 32 MPH down hill) but it works for me.

^ ^ ^ I rode a 52/16 the other day, that IS a steep ratio... I bet it's fun when you get it up to full speed but man, don't you want to die everytime you have to stop it in front of a light?

well, 32/17 is less than a 2 to 1 ratio, so that's extremely small, more on par with the artistic cyclists and single speed MTB's than what anyone on the street is running for the average fixed gear setup.
