Rim tape sucks.

My new bike came with rubber rim tape. High pressure clinchers plus 185 pound me at high speed=shifting rim tape. Shifting rim tape=blown inner tube-twice. Today is Sunday, LBS is closed....I can't ride my new bike. I had this same problem with my old fix. I installed those hard plastic type rim tapes the pros run, no more flats. I'm gonna get some tomorrow, but I wanted to ride tonight.
Sucks. I guess I'll ride my chopper instead.

Wrong.

Rubber/vinyl rim tape sucks.

Velox brand cloth rim tape works great. I'll stick with what has worked well for 40+ years.

Your LBS is closed on Sunday? Are they a combination church/LBS, and hold their services separately...?

That blows (get it?). And as people have said, Velox is good, Veloplugs are great if they fit your rim and you have $10 extra to spare.

Those fancypants metallic bands the pros use (Deda makes them) are real nice too. Super reliable and super easy install. My girlfriend's bike has those.

(It's the only part of her bike that's nicer than my bike.)

Good luck getting that **** off. Duct tape works great - in a pinch (out in BFE with NO access to a bike shop until you get back). It sucks balls if that's what you intend to use as a permanent solution.

Use medical tape. Do a run down both side of the rim. One down the middle if you want to be extra safe. I learned this trick from the local track coach.

I used to do this, until I stopped for a reason I can't remember at the moment.

on my deep v's, the nipples and spoke tips are so far down i figure they'll never touch the tube... so i just put some duct tape over the rim seam.

Are you saying that you don't use any rim tape other than the bit over the seam?

The edges of the hole for the spoke nipple, can wear and cut the part of the tube that bulges into the hole, when stretched under pressure.

If you've had no problems, then it's no problem. Whatever works.
