I do usually, depends how far I'm going and where I'm riding. I've been hit enough times to appreciate my helmet, even if it looks lame and messes up my hair.

I wear one on group rides and of course racing which is required but rarely on solo jaunts.

This is what I mean. Am I the only nineteen year old on the planet who wears a helmet? Seriously- I doubt I'll be riding the way ride now in ten years, so if I'm ever going to wear a helmet, it should probably be now.

(The Economics major in me says there's a lot wrong with that last statement, but I'm letting it go).

And now, I'm off for a ride (with my helmet on).

I wear my helmet 90% of the time. The only time i don't wear it is usually when i'm riding around downtown with friends. Those rides are quite a bit more leisurely, and while i realize that just because i'm not going fast doesn't mean the cars aren't, i feel quite safe without it. I hate when i ride hard and get the pads inside all sweaty, and then go out for another ride later, because insides are all wet still. It's disgusting.

So, for example, you'd rather not live through falling off your bike while going fast down a hill, or getting hit by a car and maybe breaking a few ribs and scraping your arms?

A helmet can turn a fatal accident in to a rather trivial, or at least nowhere near life threatening, accident.

If you've ever hit your head when doing the horizontal trackstand, going zero mph, you were glad to have your helmet on.

A car bumping you at 5 mph will knock you off your bike and send you into the street.

And what sort of message are you sending your kids?

I think it put cycling in Oz back ten years. Isn't it interesting that Australia's cycling injury statistics suggest that it became more dangerous to cycle after helmets were made compulsory? Still, if you want to wear a helmet (and have the choice), please do.

I'm 19, and when I ride with traffic I ride with a helmet. At school I don't because there is hardly any car traffic on the roads, but when I'm at home I almost always rock a helmet.

You try to avoid feeling silly on your tallbike?!? The only time I don't wear my basic, boring, nicely-ventilated helmet is when I ride the tallbike. Then I've got a big, black, full-coverage helm - with plastic viking horns.

Kids pay far more attention to what you do, not what you say. He most likely knows that.

I never wore a helmet while living in Belgium and Germany. So I don't see any reason to wear one now. The only people I would see wearing helmets in Europe were people on road bikes, out training most likely.

i don't in nice weather. i never wore one until march or so when i got hit. but when it got hot, i just couldn't deal with how i felt so overheated.

when it gets crappy out, i always wear it, since i figure there's an increased chance of wiping out/cars losing control/vision impairment (i have glasses, raindrops don't help me; i need contacts badly).
