hell yeah sample run nitto bars

just back from punch cycles where I picked these up:

I asked the guy there what the deal with them is, and my japanese is basically crud but I understood it like this:

there was a guy in osaka who worked for a small parts company who designed these especially for street fixed riding but the brand didnt like them so he sent the plans to nitto. For some reason they made a small run (10) of them and gave them to stores in tokyo (punch, carnival, depot) and they all sold. Nitto wasn't really interested in making them though but apparently there was enough demand to warrant a production of thirty more. Well they did and the punch had two pairs left.

Does anyone know any better about these? Maybe ceya knows the story.

going to put them on tonight. trip report later.

I cant say they look comfortable.
I wonder how they decided that shape was specifically good for street fixed riding.

Looks like there is a little drop to them, yeah? How wide are they? They do look narrow.

they are super narrow, and there is no drop. Just took them for a spin around the block.

if you like flat bars you would love these, unfortunately I hate flat bars. Thats basically it, they are flat bars with neat little bullhorns at the end for getting some speed or boosting up a hill, really nothing special or great. Don't regret getting them, definitely a cool item.

I think they're neat. If you get sick of them and decide they need a new home, let me know.

I run (and like) flat bars, but those look a bit overly narrow -- what are they, like 36cm?

That makes no sense. Unless you mean flat bars that have been chopped down to a too small size and then modified with a pipe bender.

$.02: Tiny bars are lame except for small children.

I always wished someone made a shortened version of the old Scott AT-3 mountain bars. Those come close.

I like the concept to an extent and they do look nice.
I run basically the same thing only w/ a chopped flat bar + ends.
Still, there's one big difference: my bars are straight all the way to the bar ends... and that means I can use the full width on the flat part which is crucial if you use the flats at all as we are talking about a very narrow bar here. You don't want to be gripping the bend, esp. as it bends in the wrong direction... Those 3 cm matter a lot... and that means that mine are good and these are crap. Sorry.
