[Mercier] What are the chances?
That the Mercier Kilo TT comes stock with a Dura-Ace cog?
Here's why I ask: I recently got a Kilo TT and hearing that the cog and lockring is trash, I immediately took the rear wheel to my FLBS and had the cog/lockring swapped out for the Dura-Ace equivalents. A few days later my son was asking me what's so special about a fixed-gear bike, so I pulled out a freewheel and the stock Kilo TT cog to illustrate the difference. It was then that I noticed "Shimano" and "Dura Ace" stamped into the cog.
So... one of two things happened: the guys at the FLBS pulled off the stock cog and accidentally put it back on instead of the Dura Ace cog I bought, or my stock Kilo TT wheel came stock with a Dura Ace cog and I now have two 16t Dura Ace cogs.

Because I don't have a lockring tool, and the stamping is covered by the lockring. I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone knew of a batch of rogue Kilo TT's having DA cogs or something.

Mine definitely came with a 16T Dura Ace cog. This was on a 2006 Kilo TT. Cogs are cheap, it doesn't surprise me that they would spent a couple more dollars to put that coveted "Dura Ace" label on a cheap bike for marketing purposes.

HAHAHAH!
"This dumba*s wants me to replace a 16t Dura Ace cog with a... 16t Dura Ace cog. 'Tard."
That does it. I'm getting my own lockring tool and chain whip.

Yeah... I've now determined both that fact and my own idiocy. All in one fell swoop.

If they are using dura ace cogs, why are they using such cheap lockrings? Lockrings cost even less than cogs. Doesn't make sense to me.

You got me.
But now I have an extra 16t Dura Ace cog kicking around. Never bad to have spares, I suppose.
Oh, and a really cheap lockring. Heh.
