All I know is that I'd rather live in a world where people choose bikes as fashion accessories rather than Cadillac Escalades.

There you go, ride with 2 and it's like ninja armor.

Not saying it's impossible, just that as impact zones go it's less likely than anything on your side or front. I conducted extensive experiments on this during my BMX years, mostly without a lock but with the occasional breaker bar and socket to keep things interesting.

i havent seen this...and i cant imagine how it would fit in the back pocket. mine never would. sometimes when i'm going out and all i need is a lock i actually stick the whole thing ("u" side down) down the back of my jeans. the cross bar sits right on my wistband and hold it in place. if i ever got tagged by a cager or landed on my ***** i would be hurting though.

The small locks that only lock the frame will fit in a back pocket, and can be used if your bike doesn't have any quick release things like mine.

Anyway - I understand the accessibility thing, though my Chrome has a giant pocket seemingly designed for it that can be easily gotten at by just shifting the bag. Personally, I just don't pedal as efficiently when I've got a heavy metal thing in one of my back pockets, and it throws off my usual sitting position.

But whatever - I'm nitpicking. It's just something I almost never see done by clearly experienced riders with good form and well maintained bikes, so I chalk it up to the hipsterness.

lock in back pocket doesn't affect my riding at all. if you're sitting on your back pockets, you're doing it wrong.

Yeah, this doesn't affect me at all, either.

My OnGuard Mini Bulldog lock fits perfectly in the back pocket of my jeans and my shorts, and carrying it there is perfect if I don't want to carry my big-ass bag down to the corner to get a falafel. Makes perfect sense to me!

+1 (wheel that is). The "little pocket lock" is one of two things.

A small lock to hold a huge ass chain around both wheels and the frame together

*OR*

A fashion accessory..

Sorry to be so blunt, but why not use a lock that will hold at least ONE of your wheels on? I've learned that one the hard way. Large u-lock down the pants 4 life.

Apparently I don't understand what riding a fixed gear is all about, and my brake is destroying my connection to the bike and the road.

Another strange hipster phenomenon - they like to carry a short u-lock in the back pantpocket of their tight jeans. This is a great convenience when you're stepping out for a pint with a couple of friends. However, it looks ******** when you're riding with your requisite messenger bag at the same time.
it's funny when these same clowns can't trackstand or skip or skid to save their life--the same scenesters also
aren't into bikes in general--it's fixed or nuthin--personally I want a new lugged road bike at the moment but I can't justify it. The brake/no brake debate is also tiresome--you can ride without using it to force yourself to grow your
skills. I guess I should shut up tho--more bikes means fewer cars, but I suspect the political angle is lost on many among
the hipster set.

I'd settle for a Marinoni with Dura-Ace or even

Kaiju- have you looked on the Marinoni website? There are a ton of used lugged ones of the same vintage as mine.

Gargiulo - just built a poprad, haven't touched my track bike in weeks.

On the subject of dumb social classifications...

I just learned from the main page that the female equivalent of a Clydesdale is now an "Athena."

Maybe I'm just a callous and snide skinny fella, but why can't we all circle up, stop kidding ourselves, and call a spade a spade? I believe "fat people" is the term.

I'm jealous. My mini bulldog doesn't fit in my back pocket - or at least the pockets of my levi jeans. I'll stick it through my belt if i'm not carrying a bag.

I use a small Ulock here for a bike with QR front & back tires---this is OK for daytime Japan I think. No Theft! (Very Little Theft!)

You're thinking of different locks. Mini u's will fit a rear wheel on most bikes without extra long chainstays or deep rims.. More importantly though they are too small to fit a jack in and so are much harder to defeat then full size ones.
