Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I use mine to get places as well, but there's nothing wrong with having some fun while doing it.

That's some sweet sh*t right there.

I like watching people do things like this on fixies because for some reason, it always looks so elegant. I would rather see someone bust a move on a track bike that a BMX bike any day.

+1; it looks like the bikes actually fit them.

That's only is cool because it's fixed gear. That's a easy trick to pull on a fat tired MTB.

Uhm... duh?

I mean, not to sound like an ass, but yeah. I mean, I used to do that alla time when I was racing BMX back in the day. The novelty of it is that it is, in fact, done on a fixie.

At least the deep-V's on those bikes are more about function than simply form, so one can atleast admire that.

Where does mediocrity figure into this? They are doing things above and beyond what people normally do with fixed-gear bikes. That's not mediocre.

The problem is that 99% of the population will see that and think it's no big deal - they don't realize that the drive train makes that really difficult.

Which is why this will never be the "new skateboarding" - frankly it sucks in comparison to BMX. You and I may find it entertaining but I just don't think it's marketable.

Does it need to be marketable? Is that what it's going for? To me it seems like a bunch of guys having a bunch of fun on their fixed-gear bikes.

Of course it needs to be marketable... this is a gif for Cadence clothing.

Tom LaMarche is a good rider, he does some crazy sh*t on a fixed gear bike. I will completely concede that much. But coming from a freeride and DH racing background, his "tricks are for kids."

Here's is Aaron Chase, who is undoubtedly a better rider.
