Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Would you be able to use a threaded headset and fork?

Yep. Gotta get a threaded headset too.

I'm not sure what you mean by "affordable," but dig around. Local shops might have some used steel stuff sitting in the basement that they'd sell you for a 6 pack, or you could drop 4 bills on a wound up. There's lots of stuff in between too.

Yes. You have to get a threaded headset and a threaded fork with an appropriately sized steerer tube (diameter and length based on your head tube).

I also prefer threaded headsets and quill stems, but only for aesthetics.

My buddy's on a budget and we were hoping to throw on a headset/fork/stem/bars on it, which I have laying around to get it rolling.

Crossing fingers that everything fits.
