Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The skid salute?

So I had this idea a while ago and I seem to be pretty much the only one who thinks that it is straight up awesome. We as fixed riders should stick together, we're all way cooler than old guys in spandex or 13 year olds on bmx bikes. So my idea is, when you see another kid on a fixed bike riding around, you give him a little skid to say, "yo, what's up. we're cooler than these ******bags." Nothing big, just like, 1 second, you don't even have to get out of your seat, just lock it up and say yo. Good idea? If a kid skids at you, don't be shy, salute him back.

I appreciate the desire for solidarity, but your motivation is a little suspect.

i think you should skid and drift into traffic and cause a wreck, hopefully a 4+ car pileup... that would make sure the fellow fixer would see you.

other ******bags may even take notice of how much cooler you are than them.

No I commute from Malvern, which blows because I have to ****ing walk everywhere on campus (SEPTA doesn't allow bikes during peak). Next time you see me say hi. Are you going to mass Friday?

I totally envisioned a balls to stem skid, with right hand to your eyebrow saluting, and the other behind your back.
