Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I just had to!

So I know this probably isn't kosher on the boards, and I promise I won't do it for every pickup I have, but I just had to do it this one time!

My first ever aftermarket component for my bike came today! I treated myself to a honey brown Brooks Swift (Ti) saddle and the UPS man dropped it off just a few hours ago! I just couldn't pass up the price I got it for, and after putting it on, I've been riding for the last 3 hours in utter bliss!

I couldn't contain my excitement anymore, I had to share with the whole world (aka you guys) how happy I am!

Safe riding everyone!

Pictures really don't do the color combo justice!

Next up: Brooks handlebar wrap and a different stem!

That's hot! Keep in mind, you don't have to pay through the nose for brooks wrap if colour coordination is what youre after. Shellaced cotton tape goes great with a honey brooks, it's way way cheaper and arguably a lot more functional---it won't get funky or rotten, it's more durable, and some (e.g. bfssfger mander) would argue that the colour looks even better.

Or, Velo Orange elk-hide wrap is WAY cheaper than Brooks.

Hey, wait... isn't a good price on a saddle technically a "bum deal?"

Congratz on the new item, I think thew first aftermarket thing I purchased for my bike was a saddle...then a frameset. Once you start upgraded you won't be able to stop.

I hated the stock Pista drops, I would have replaced those first, but to each his own. Looks good.

This is yellow hockey tape with three or four coats of shellac. You can darken it by adding more coats. If you're anal about matching you can get the colour very close to a proofided honey Brooks by doing shellac over red tape.

Utter bliss from the first ride? That must be a soft Swift. Mine took about 500 miles to get "the shape" I do like it, wish it had hangers for a tool bag. I had to make a bag mount from a single water cage mount.

Actually, I haven't installed mine yet, but those on the C&V forum who have it love it. I'll be putting mine on in 2 weeks, when I have 3 days off work. I'm gonna try to finish 3 bike projects. It's going on this (I know. Gears. Sorry):
