Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

If I move to bicycle city...

I'll post once to rub it in and be done with bikeforums. I mean who needs a cyber bike community when you live in a real life bike community? The place even has a velodrome and multipurpose lawn. (aka bike polo field) I was hoping to live in a sim city arcology (one of the green ones, not one of the icky black ones) but as long as we're talking about fanciful places to live, I'll take bicycle city.

They were inspired by Mackinaw Island, MI? Ok, so cars aren't allowed, but the place is nothing more than a ****ing tourist trap. Not saying I disagree with their ideals, but that website kinda gives me the creeps for some reason. I also bet living in that city would be like the 'smug spewing honda pious' episode of South Park.

This **** will turn into a disastrous project of brain eating hipsters and body chopping safety advocates.

Let me know when/where they build this. I've been looking for a place to set off that nuclear bomb I have in the basement.

seriously... the "we're racially diverse (but totally hypothetical!) + we've got a racoon" graphic is a bit creepy.

One evening as the sun went down and the jungle fire was burning
Down the street came a fixer riding and he said boys I'm not turning
I'm headin for a land that's far away beside the no smog committee
So come with me we'll go and see the Big Rock Bicycle City

In the Big Rock Bicycle City there's a land that's fair and bright
Where the skip stops grow on bushes and you drink fourties every night
Where the toe straps are all doubles and the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
Where the lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Bicycle City

In the Big Rock Bicycle City all the cops have wooden wheels
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth and the hipsters stop with their heels
The farmer's trees are full of cogs and the barns are full of hubs
Oh, I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall and the wind don't blow
In the Big Rock Bicycle City

In the Big Rock Bicycle City you never change your chain
And the little streams of NJS come a-trickling down like rain
The roadies have to tip their hats and the fixers are polite
There's a lake of brakes and of bullhorns too
You can paddle all around 'em in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Bicycle City.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains the jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again as soon as you are in
There ain't no short handed LBS, and they always have your parts
I'm a goin to stay where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk that invented work
In the Big Rock Bicycle City

I'll see you all this coming fall in the Big Rock Bicycle City.

It's like Buckminster Fuller meets the Stepford Wives.

Great idea but the people running the website/marketing must be Christian Nazis.
