Definately. It would be impossible without complete worldwide cultural change to reach true sustainability. It's basically impossible. However, there are both small and large steps that can be taken at every level of industry to reduce wasted resources.

I totally agree with not eating meat for "moral" or "health" issue, but the idea that somehow the world is going to change because a handfull of kids arent eating meat is asinine. And as far as being environmentally conscious, vegan and vegetarian foods are some of the most over packaged crap in the stores.

I'm not offended but I don't think it's particularly funny.

It was maybe kind of funny the first time, possibly even the second, but this is the 100+ time someone has made the same exact joke. It's just kind of old now.

That's like assuming that every meat-eater only eats TV dinners.

Meat is dangerous guys. One time I saw this cougar eating a bird and he started choking. If I hadn't been there to give him the extra special cougar heimlich that only I know, he probably would have died.

I totaly agree that a "handful of kids not eating meat" isnt going to change the word. But do you think that half the people on bikeforums are insane for thinging that it might do something for the earth since they are riding a bike and not driving an Asscalade?

No, I dont think that at all, both vehicles I have owned were large, pre 70's SUV's, I ride a bike because I like it, not because I'm trying to change the world.

And here, I found this for you guys:

My point is that pointing out that prepackaged vegan food is, um, prepackage is pretty silly. Not all vegans eat prepackaged food all the time.

Why eat prepackaged foods, when you can just make it? Most of the food you buy in the store is cheaper to make yourself, and tastes better made at home.

Dispose of your bikes! Buy a Hummer! The idea that a handful of kids riding bikes are going to make any difference is asinine.

What is with this wannabe anti-sensationalist "good luck trying to change the world" jive I get from non-vegans so often (not necessarily here)? These ppl try to paint the simple, human behaviour of operating under one's own ethics to be some kind of fascist statement of the ultimate and necessary good. And if doing what one thinks is right doesn't have its own end, seperate from any precipitating effects, then yea, there probably isn't a point to using a system of ethics at all, save for belief in biblical redemption and the afterlife.

Creating your own ethics is an exercise in futility

Acts 10:9-18
9 The next day, as they were on their journey and coming near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. 10 And he became hungry and desired something to eat; but while they were preparing it, he fell into a trance 11 and saw the heaven opened, and something descending, like a great sheet, let down by four corners upon the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of animals and reptiles and birds of the air. 13 And there came a voice to him, "Rise, Peter; kill and eat." 14 But Peter said, "No, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean." 15 And the voice came to him again a second time, "What God has cleansed, you must not call common." 16 This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.

Either way, this thread has veered way off topic. Not that it was ever on topic, but whatever.
