Saddle reborn
So my seat looked pretty crumby and I decided to recover it. Went to auto upulstry shop to see if the had any perforated white leather or vinyl scraps. No luck, guess I should have gone to a place that restores VWs from the 60s. Anyway, the guy was super nice and gave me about 8 sq.ft. of white vinyl for free.
What it looked like to start:
Amramentarium:
Needle nose pliers
scissors
Super 77 adhesive
drill
vinyl or leather of your choosing
plastic lacing from craft store (think 80's friendship bracelets)
large craft needles
patience
Procedure:
-remove staples
-use previous material as template
-cut new material a bit oversize
-spray seat and underside of cover with the super 77
-let dry a little
-form carefully; the material will want to bunch at the nose and tail; cut "Vs" as necessary, pull excess material to the sides as you work
-drill lots of holes
-pull and lace (you may want to tie temporary anchors at a few spots around the saddle before you get going just to hold things in place while you work
Finished product:

I dig. Another alternative, of course, is to just strip it and run the plastic shell. Completely doable, actually, especially with SLR-type saddles.

I really wanted to do it with a perforated material... maybe next time though. Thanks for all the compliments.
