Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? If you don't know what pronoun to use just use "they" and "them"...

On this forum (in particular) I see that the default assumption is for "he" and "him", but there are a lot of women who post here.

its big. the silver frame i bought used, and it was advertised as a smaller size. steering feel and weight transfer are fine and comparable to the ride of more ordinary stems lengths ive used.

So this morning I went on a 24 mile bike ride on the road bike with a bunch of hipsters:

hfy Waiting at traffic lights! Lots of road bikes converted to mustache bars or risers, most had racks and fenders. I was by far the youngest person on the ride, but it was totally awesome! They loved my road bike and all it's color matched goodness.

I felt that riding a size too big on my Fuji (and running a slightly shorter stem) actually felt pretty nice, it just looked a little ugly. However... riding a bike the correct size now, I don't want to go back!

hey quick question! might be more road bike oriented but whatever....

anywho, my road bike has 8 speed in the back, 3 in the front. was thinking about changing the front crank/chainring to a compact dura-ace.....2 speeds in the front....but not running a front derailleur. would it be possible to just use the 8 speeds with one of the front chainrings and change by hand if needed? do people do this at all? is it stupid?

its got Cinelli Criterium bars does that count for "fixed gear style"?

@BlickBlocks; How does that GT ride? I have been thinking of getting one if I can find one in my size.

This is how my Chesini is currently set up. Works fine.

Bianchi Strada circa 1988 acquired from a friend. I changed the brakeset, bars, saddle, grips and tires. I had thoughts of converting to SS, but for right now it's staying as-is. Just took it for it's maiden ride today.
