Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I shoulda bought that Vitus frame when you were selling it. So rad.

This thread reminds me, I finally got rid of the flop n' chops. I like it quite a bit better this way, much easier to stretch out for more sustained riding.

I love the downward sloping top tube, to the super tall stem, with the negative rise, and the risers.

It all adds up to say "IDGAF".

Excellent.

Excellent.
it's a flat stem, it looks slightly sloping because of the angle.

Hoods give you an awesome comfortable hand position you don't get otherwise. Also, you in Bloomington IN? I think I saw your bike the other day, thought it was fixed for a second.

There is no way you aren't riding on the flats.

Even if you aren't, riding in the drops effectively has you riding brakeless freewheel, which is idiotic not to mention difficult. I'd like to see you bombing a hill or taking tight corners in the drops.

Im seriously considering switching to fixed, new wheels in the spring and if i do go fixed, thatd be the time to do it.
Also considering bullhorns, looking for some small reach minimalistic ones (short torso), sort of like a flip and chop, but i would never do that to the current bars, theyre too nice.
Wow, this bike is just a mess.

You need a second brake. Not optional.

I won't go into the rest because it crosses the line from safety concern to personal gripe, but this build is just a mess to me.

personally im not feeling the chunky bmx pedals on thus build or the yellow handlebar tape...other than that (and the lack of a back brake) i like it.
seriously, you should get a back brake. if you are going fast on the higher gears a front brake might not cut it for certain situations.

i like the bmx/dj pedals bc that's what i'm used to and they're comfortable, cheap, and i can wear whatever shoes i want w/o a problem
the yellow tape isn't my favorite, color is different than what it looked like online...oh well
i ride 20 min round trip through neighborhoods to school a couple times a day and 20-30 mile rides 2-3 times a week, im not bombing through stop lights and down big ass hills. what would you say to a bmx/dirt jumper that rides one or no brakes? you don't see people harping on them constantly.

BMX bikes don't have gearing that allows them to go 25 mph on flat ground
BMX bikes are easier to bail off of if their brake fails
People don't go on multiple "20-30 mile rides" on their BMX bikes every week

Claiming you ride a hundred miles a week doesn't help your case here. That just increases the probability that you'll have a brake failure, or forget to close the quick release, or encounter a situation where you want more than a front alone.

But anyway, I think the platforms are great for an around-town bike. Having bmx platforms doesn't really mesh with your claim of three 30 mile rides a week, but I don't really believe that anyway. If you rode that much, you'd have a second brake.

I think it's pretty, though.
