So as I was riding home from school today on my recently built steamroller ( only two weeks old ) I started hearing *and feeling* a clicking noise of some sorts. Now this may sound stupid I dunno but does a new chain make a noise when its stretching for a little while? It's a 1/8th " kool chain, and i've never ridden that size and I cant remember if my previous fixed which was 3/32 made a noise stretching or not. The tension isn't super tight or super slack, it's just perfect. Should I take the cranks off, take out the bb, regrease it, put it all back on snug and just go from there, or is this sound normal for a chain? I'm hoping it's not my new miche cranks.
Not to worry, a lot of drive train clicks just mean that something is a little too loose or not greased enough. If the sound is in time with your pedal strokes, it could be the pedals, chainring bolts, cranks or bb. Remove, regrease and retighten them in that order (from smallest to biggest pita, that is).
yeah, it's in the same spot on both sides of the pedal stroke. I guess i'll just spend my night off taking it apart and greasing the **** out of the bb and tightening everything and doing it all over again.
