I don't know about that. The signal to noise ratio in this forum is approaching zero. Rapidly. There are hardly any genuinely cool discussions.

some new kind of kick
Anyway if your point is correct about the signal to noise ratio that would support
more aggressive moderation.

We had a good group.. and over time, the "signal to noise" ratio began to slide as well. What really happened? The same thing as now.
After a while, most people have read most basic issues. Then, we (including you), get uppity, take pot shots.. new people come in.. battles ensue.. and then things move on. People come and go. The average new poster reads, sorts through crap.. post a little.. gets ignored a lot.. and then gets wrapped into the fold. Soon, the group gradually changes.
We did some amazing things: raised money for a charity aids ride, raised money for the lost boys of Sudan. We even published a book that was sold here on the forums. We fought tooth and nail. Some people hooked up and had relationships (cough.. Chi town dude.. cough).. and we posted about our lives. Then, we moved on, slowly but surely. Some of us still read, some still post. Others have moved in here, become common contributers, and are now very well known. Some of the older crowd have made very loud exits.
We all, including the group before us, bemoaned the "change" of the forum. But we were all wrong.
The point is, this forum is a living thing to an extent. It grows as people come and go. But it takes a life based upon who is here. And unless you want to control who is here, you're fighting water, and will be overcome. It is largely a waste of time to ***** about it. This forum is a great place to come, learn, joke, play, meet people, have fun. But it's not home, and it's not the only reality of life that you have. At the end of the day, you unplug, sleep and ride. Calling it crap and labeling people as "non valid contributers" is about as effective as chewing gum to study for a math exam. If you don't like it, leave. Others will take your place.
There is a lot to be gained here. It's like a party, with numerous conversations going on. You filter some, participate in others, and simply listen. I've met people who are AWESOME here. I spent 3 days in Hawaii, riding fixed with two great people. We rode, drank, raced, bull****, and rode some more. I have been in contact with people I've never met face to face, but we have kept in contact, loosely, over the years.. sharing our life and all that has gone with them. Heartaches, deaths, job losses, moving to different cities, even different countries. If I had gone your route of crying about "noise".. I'd never have gained friends, insight, and experiences that I consider more valuable than the cheapest place to purchase deep V rims.
As I ramble on here.. I hope everyone realizes that noise to you is music to others. And you should respect that. Bring something to the table, and move on when you've grown out of it.
So, there.
And remember two things:
The battery awards will live again this year (hint pit boss..)
And I coined the phrase "Assclowns" and I'm working the copyright.
And if you don't like it: email me sdfixed at gmail.com.
And if your shants are that much in a wad.. suck it up.

Hawaii rocked. Nothing better than kicking out of the pedals, letting the cranks fly as you coast down the back side of Diamond head, freaking out the tri freaks.

See post 298. Deaf kittens and small dogs are actually a hilarious combination. Our dogs would get in our kitten's face and bark their heads off, and she just gave them a look of indifference. She was also totally ninja.
