Welcome back Donald, I hope it goes better this time round. I think it's a shame you don't see it as a GOOD thing when threads you post attract such a lot of quality responses. I enjoyed the old lug shot threads for the additions everyone else made as well as for yours, but without your starting posts, they just wouldn't have happened. Maybe you could learn to love it?

Sammy,

I hear you man, but if the thread is titled "pic o' the week", and people just post whatever, whenever (not even focused on lugs-no knowledge of how they were made, etc.), then what it the point?

I feel like people should just start their own thread if they are so inspired. When I started "Keirin Fixation", it spawned a host of other "Fixation" nation-themed threads. You can tell that (with one or two exceptions) that people post their own pics here just to rattle Don's cage. Spiteful, and worthless behaviour, IMO.

True. It wasn't like that to start with though. I once posted a pic to one of Don's lug threads, of one of my own bikes lugs, in complete innocence, and got an earful. This is after all, an public forum, and all other threads are there for people to discuss and comment. Why not start a lug thread of the week, then Don's pic is always the first, and other people can knock themselves out.

Sammy, not fond of some of the "quality responses"...hope you understand. There is like a 30% "I don't get it" in here and the other 70% dig what I am posting.
The 30% are intent on namecalling, hijacking, acting like total *******s, etc.
The 70% are the ones that actually enjoy what I post and is why I came back.

Now, if we can just get those 30% to STFU, we'll all be happy, eh?

The people that come in here and argue about the "rules"* of this thread are just as bad, if not worse, than the people that come to the forum to post that "fixies are dumb" or go into the Jackass thread to say that the people there are stupid. If you don't like it, just ignore the thread. If you don't want to see DWs lug shots, then ignore this thread. By coming in and posting all kinds of **** or complaining about him, you are ruining the thread for people that want to see DWs photos.

Although I definitely agree with zacked that a blog page would be much more sufficient for what he wants to do.

*I use rules in quotes because it is just what the OP wanted, not an actual set of rules

My server is down; hopefully back up soon. I was going to post more pics.

Don, where were the "assistants" normally hired to be at these events?

Perhaps! I wonder if I'm one of the ones that "gets it"? I appreciate the pics you post, and I'm glad to see them. But then, I also appreciate the ones other people add. Does "getting it" mean understanding that this is a thread only for your pictures, or is it about "getting" beautiful lugs? I mean, reading your intro, it seems as though "getting it" consists in appreciating that you're trying to promote people's work, but what's wrong with people promoting the work of others in the same thread?

What "assistants"? The photographers runner? The door people? Medics?

Not sure what you mean?

Sammyboy, I was trying to keep the thread "on target" for the builder I was posting. its much easier to answer questions about 1 builder than to field questions about 20 different ones. I was also trying to show support for the builders that support the show. I think you might "get it", but its tough for me to understand why anyone else needs promoting based on my original post. If they are at NAHBS, I will pimp them. If they arent, why use my thread as a vehicle to give them props? Why not just start a thread of their own...eh?

Thanks

DW

And here is some vintage track bike. I forgot which site had these originally - I'd happily give credit if anyone complains.
Mind you, I've also forgotten the story behind this bike, except that it is original condition, not restored.

don: this isn't the right part of the forum, but where and how did you learn to build bikes? It's been something I've wanted to do for a while.

Great article here, in which I'm fairly certain he mentions the Paterek Manual.

Also- I don't understand the lack of respect for DW, here.

After all, you guys wouldn't pull these kinds of stunts on the likes of Baylis or Sachs...

Uh......if Brian Baylis, or Richard Sachs, both of whom I've spoken to on other forums, were to post a picture of a bike here, I'm fairly sure people would respond by posting pictures of other bikes they liked. It's just what forums are for.

incorrect.

When, for example, Sasha of Vanilla posted here, he was also met with a certain level of disdain...

I'm sure that if he pressed on it would have turned into a circus of the ridiculous.

100 lb. mophead skinny-jean twentysomethings with a new bike and an old grudge--nothing better to do.

REALLY, really tired and lame. See that start new thread button there at the top? Why do they not have the guts to use it? It is against forum rules to derail threads. Want to respond to DW? Use the PM's or START A NEW THREAD. Oops, that takes balls. Hard to grow those suckers past puberty, I guess.

Some of you would fit in so well in Foo. Not so much in polite society.

Cheers,

SD

is it just me or did the OP want this to happen? Sheesh. You all are nuts. For anyone to come in here and try to dictate the contents of a particular thread is just insane. Like wicked insane. What a well respected troll...

Right, well, I think you've missed my point entirely, then. Let me spell it out for you, mate.

Look again at what I've said-

And by that, I mean expressly what has taken place in this thread; Provocation and harassment, namely.
