The Bike Project Champaign Urbana
I am in Champaign for a 3 week job training seminar. I went to Champaign Cycles today to see what was up with the local bike scene. They told me about the bike project in urbana and I wanted to see if any of you have any information on this place or if any of you are involved I may try and pick up a beater to ride around for the next two and a half weeks.

The sweet corn is great, as always (Our sweetcorn fest will attest to that).

I know they have a space at the IMC (former post office in Urbana), where they have some tools to work on some bikes.
Initially they had ambitious plans of creating a bike rental operation, similar to that getting press in Paris now. I went with to get some bikes from the campus police one time, though I never followed up much about their up-keep. They did often request help, and many bikes were stored at my old house for a while.
Regardless, I would suggest just following up with their email and such to get more info.

The ubiquitous Jimmy John's. I might get a beater to ride for a couple weeks and then donate in to my own co-op after I return to the east coast. My plan is to go on Sunday and check stuff out.

I was just there last night and as far as I know we are not renting bikes due to insurance/liability reasons. There are some bikes for sale and you might be able to pick one up rather cheaply although there is not a huge selection of bikes that ready to roll out the door.

I am reasonably skilled at bike maintainence enough to where with a couple hours I might be able to get something rolling out the door. I may buy a cheap bike long enough to ride and then donate it to my co-op once I get home. Anything in a 55-57cm range that you saw?

there might be something available although the majority of the bikes at the co-op are big box bikes (x-mart)..... PM me to let me know when you will be coming into town, I am usually there on Thursday nights but I can get access any night and we should be able to get you set up with something
