Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

OT: Planet Earth - Anybody seen it?

Watched it last night and had my mind blown? Unbelievable footage and detail. Makes me want to sell everything I own and travel around the world. I have no idea how they got those shots.

Anyways completely off topic, but ****in amazing!
Do yourself a favor and watch it.

Yes. Amazing. Another good one it 'Blue Planet.' I think it's 5 episodes, but it's like planet earth underwater.

(Also, don't forget the sticky-icky)

Planet Earth was awesome. Ironic as it is that an urban-dwelling, simplicity loving, pavement riding fixster would watch a cable show about nature on an HDTV

if you buy the dvds i'm pretty sure a lot of the bonus material is about how they got the shots.

^^^ Johnny Rotten's hobby also... From interview with Spin

Recently, you've been making nature documentaries for television.

I just did two astounding shows in Africa, one on gorillas and one on great white sharks. They're not shown here in [the U.S.], but we'll change that, won't we? I love being in those environments. My favorite, though, was the great whites -- to be learning to dive with these 17-foot things swimming around you. 'Cause you need the diving lessons first, in Cape Town, South Africa.

That's where the great whites kill seals in midair, out of the water.

That's it! That's where I was! It's something I've studied all my life. You couldn't have made me happier, although the fear was overwhelming at times. But I like that. I view it the same way as I do writing songs. It's risky business.

Just added it to the top of my queue on Netflix. Can't wait to see it. I just didn't realize that it was on DVD. I thought it was only like a TV thing that was just released. Oh well, should be here in a few days.

the DVDs have lots of how they got the shots, and thats almost more interesting than the episodes themselves. some of the cameramen would sit in a hut by themselves for a week or more just waiting for a certain bird that has never been photographed before to show up right where they need it to be.
