BB Q's Pt. II

I thought everything was legit, I disassembled the whole thing, regreased, reassembled and tightened everything and resigned myself to the fact that it was just my frame flexing and it was fine. Well I was way wrong, upon closer inspection I can see the ****ing cups moving in the shell and I am scared to actually pull it apart. What the hell do you do if your BB shell is stripped? It is an aluminum frame, which I have never dealt with, did I mess up?, or is it crappy aluminum?

if your BB shell is actually stripped then you're pretty SOL.
especially if it's aluminum.

you might be able to tap new threads. i'm not totally sure of that, though. if you can't, then yes, your frame is ****ed. sorry to say it. i hope your threads aren't actually damaged. fingers crossed, eh?

Im thinking its ****ed, Its a crap frame Ive had for like 4 years and I just finally built it up and this has happened in the first 2 weeks of riding.
I was wonder if its not stripped too bad, if I could just loctite the thing in there?

If it comes to that I don't see the harm in trying if the frame is otherwise ****ed. I can't imagine how the threads stripping would cause you to go down unless stuff starts exploding and your BB locks up.

Stripped Al frame is not a huge deal, you can have it tapped out to Italian and keep on rockin'. This is nowhere near as big of a deal in Al as steel because it's softer. $40 or so at the LBS and it will be all good.

its probably better to tap that ass to Italian threads, but if you are looking for another alternative there are threadless bottom brackets.

https://cgi.ebay.com/New-YST-Threadle...QQcmdZViewItem

I have heard that these are kinda crappy so if you are a heavy dude then this is probably not a good idea.

You're not going to be able to heli-coil a BB shell.

Dude. Here's what you do in a step by step.

1. Go to a hardware store and buy some teflon tape.
2. Go to a beer store and buy some beers.
3. Go home.
4. Drink a couple of beers.
5. Teflon tape the hell out of that sumb1tch. Like 3 or 4 wraps around the threads.
6. Drink another beer.
7. Thread it in as you normally would.
8. Drink the rest of the beer.
9. Be drunk.

60% of the time, it works every time. And it might even fix your BB strippage issues. If it don't, do the Italian threaded thing. I think it involves pesto alla genovese instead of teflon tape, but google will tell you for sure.
