It's repulsive, but I can't look away. Looks like fun too.

that looks sick as hell... but i agree that it's screaming for more triangles.
adding a downtube to the top frame might stop it from flexing.

Why all the frame cutting and welding? Why not just stack two frames with two weld points. Top BB -> bottom seat post and top headtube to bottom headtube connected with some tubing. The cut off the top frame's rear triangle and viola! This tall bike build seems like a lot of trouble and a lot of potential failure points. Also-- why horizontal track ends-- if you're going through the effort of putting new ends on the rear triangle than at least angle them so you can properly tension the chain.

Because, it's more fun. You know, fun? I guess you guys don't, all I see on these forums is a bunch of whining. I've had chance to see this bike in person, it's sick.

I think it's sick as well. Tall bikes are fun. Having lived in PDX I am biased.

Way to suck the fun right out of page 2. damn.
It looks like there's more than enough horizontal room in that rear end to adjust tension.
Good Job Gabe. I'm down with the mixte stays and tall track geometry. Looks steep.
..but needs a HED3.

CHEATER! You put an extra nut on the rear axle to use as a step-up, didn't you? You might as well mount it from a wall or something, sheesh.
Nice work on the dropouts though, I hadn't noticed them at the show.

It's 52x19 - totally worthless. I plan the get some old cottered cranks from a 3-speed with a 48 or a 50, then the bike with be all steel. It already has steel rims, hubs, stem, handlebars, and seat post.
Us old codgers need a step up on our tallbikes.
Here's my other tallbike, old news in Portland.

Anyone ever seen a custom build-up tall bike like this, but with 2 chainrings and 2 chains?
I'm not really a mechanical engineer, but couldn't you could make some seriously intense speed or torque using the extra mechanical advantage?

You mean like this?
I've seen a few running a chain down to the lower bottom bracket and then another chain back to the rear hub. It's no different than a synch chain on a tandem.
If you mean running a chain on both sides it would have to be fixed and it is kind of a b17ch to get both chainrings and both cogs to play nice with both chains.
