Columbia MO cops sucked again today

They ARRESTED a kid (Leo, for those who know) today for riding on the sidewalk. I'm not a fan of sidewalk riders at all, but a ****ing arrest? Really? Especially considering that he was only covering the distance from the corner to his lock-spot. Thanks for looking out for everyone, officer. Anyway, he called the officer a bully, and so he also got charged with resisting arrest. Fan-****ing-tastic.

I think he was most likely arrested for something else, not for riding on the sidewalk.

Probably. Any more details?

And yeah, stfu when you are arrested, note every single thing the cop does. If you wanna fight back, do it in the court.

I wish I had more details. I heard if from his boss, because she saw me doing pretty much the same thing. We normally use the road, but people pull onto the sidewalk at the corner to lock to the meters because it's safer than dismounting in the street.

And word on the stfu; I like the 5th amendment almost as much as the 1st.

Sometimes you gotta take to the sidewalk to lock up, much like drivers drive through sidewalks to enter a parking lot (and these driveways are of course legal). There's a reason Police are supposed to use discretion.

That's lame if the story isn't missing something significant. Easy to speculate that more than "bully" was said, but I'll wait for someone with a clue.

9th and cherry. You know how folks coming north pull up to lock in front of Lakota and Main Squeeze.

I know! It's something everybody does there.

I think maybe they were just trying to make an example of him...maybe somebody complained or something. That's just speculation on my part though. I'll ask him next time I see him around.

Is the lockup spot in front of a business establishment? If so, have he and the owners of the establishment(s) had any conflicts in the past? If they have, maybe the business owners sought the intervention of the po.

There's a couple of businesses there that are locally owned and have a great relationship with the cycling crowd. The other is a Subway/Baskin Robbin's franchise, and I suppose they might be pissy, although I've never seen anything to indicate that. Maybe...I'll try to find out.

This is what I envision happening:

1. Jackass comes flying on the sidewalk at 15+ as pedestrians scatter.
2. Cop comes up to write him a ticket.
3. Jackass starts mouthing off to the cop how he is a facist bully peice of **** who just wants to hassle people like the jackass who are doing the right thing rather then driving everywhere.
4. Cop manually directs the jackass to a wall for a search.
5. jackass pushes the cop away and tells him no hands which take bribes from big oil will touch him.
6. Cop slams him onto the hood of his car, cuffs him and takes him downtown.

I've dealt with plenty of jackass cops in my day but pretty much all of them enjoyed not dealing with the hassle that arresting someone and accusing them of resisting arrest entails more then they enjoyed abusing their power.

i have never seen any scenario like this ever go down with an individual cyclist and a cop, maybe i only hang out with/see level-headed cyclists.

I would not be surprised to find out that this guy is just being used as an example.

Look at the liberal, going soft on the mandatory minimum. All sidewalk riders should be shot on sight. That's the only way to get people to know what surfaces they may not travel on in certain ways.

That is what you get for hanging out in Columbia.

How nasty are those cops going to be on 11/24 when the Tigers get punked in Arrowhead? They'll be in full riot gear beating the **** out of all the Columbia poseurs!
