Track Frame might need a rear brake

Due to circumstances out of my control I will need to be able to add a rear brake to a track frame. I've got two options I can drill into the brake bridge or I assume there are some adaptors that i can place over the bridge.

Do you guys know anyone who makes some kind of plate I can place on the rear trianle to mount a brake?

You could make one yourself if you are a bit handy, they are very simple, or maybe get you local 'man with lots of tools' to knock one up for you.

All you need is a drill, a hacksaw, and a file. You can get a small piece of aluminum from the hardware store, or Home Depot or Lowes.

How are they durring use? Just like a rear brake on a road bike or do they have issues?

Maybe I should just drill the frame and forget it.

You should consider-

How are you going to make sure you drill perfectly straight?
How are you going to stop rust that will form from moisture
that the drill-hole will let in?

My vote is for the keirin brake kit.

use the brake kit, thus not ruining the frames original design.

If you've got a frame builder nearby they could drill that out easily - as long as the bridge is the appropriate distance from the wheel. Otherwise you're left with the brake kit, which would make a simple track frame look rather busy.

I've drilled out a front fork to mount fenders on a SS Mt bike with no problem. Getting the initial drill point centered before drilling is more difficult than the actual drilling. If you start with a smaller bit and work up to a larger bit then you may be able to be more accurate.

"Frame Saver" or "Boeshield T-9" will provide good protection against any moisture that could get in the hole. Although the hole would have a bolt in it, it's still recommended.

In Japan a lot of events you must have at least a brake, and 2 lights. Get the clamp kit, cheap $35 from bens. Dont drill your bridge just for an event....
