Nashbar shoes

Hullo. I don't ride a SS or FG BUT I wanted to post this here because this forum seems like it has more toe clip users than any other.

Has anyone used shoes similar to these http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...20Road%20Shoes

with a toe clip and strap setup? I just use a pair of Pyramid pedals I picked up off Amazon. Does the cleat fit into the hole in the pedal, or what?

I have a pair. They are okay.

The grove in the cleat on the bottom of the shoe catches on the raised edge that some pedals have. They do grab the pedal pretty securely on the pedals I use. In fact, they grab so well that it is a little scary to ride in them. If I am doing a lot of in-town riding, I do not use them.

And, they are super-duper 80's-arrific.

Thanks for the help. If the pedals don't have any kinda raised edge, would they still be useable and better than, say, converse all-stars?

Yes. The cleat comes off, and then the shoes are mainly useful for their stiff sole.

Now that I think about it, the pedal does not really have to have a raised edge, since the cleat goes down below the sole quite a bit. So any edge at all, not just a raised one, will work. I have used the cleat with 3 or 4 pedals and it has worked well with all.

Some people, like Sheldon Brown, insist that the cleats are dangerous because you cannot reliably get your feet out quickly. After riding with them for a while, I can see what they mean to some extent.

Thank you. I think if they get a pair in my size I will place an order!
