If I don't use the shifter
am I single-speeding? And if I don't coast am I fixed? Just kidding, looking for an excuse to post a pic of my Monkey. The bar was previously on a geared bike and I wanted to try it on the KM. But I waited to decide if I liked it on the bike before removing the shifter. I don't like the bar on this bike so I'll give it a try on the Rob Roy group buy frame before deciding if the bar, shifters or both are retired to the parts bin.
The wheel is mounted in the freewheel position but I ride at least as many miles fixed. Depends on the terrain, tires, and company.

How are the brake levers on those bars? I was not a big fan on moustache bars. Very cool looking bike though, for sure.

Alright, I'll bite. Midge's, Gary's, WTB's, or Dirt Drops?
Also, I see the bar-con, but no deraileurs. What gives?
Oh, and nice bike
-Rob.

Very nice bike.
I am also interested in what bars those actually are. I have a set of Garys, but those look narrower than the Garys (or maybe less flare) and the bends look a little softer.

Midge bars with 287-v levers. I have them positioned to be used from the hoods. Can't find a position to have useful hoods and reach the levers from the drops. I'm lacking in core strength and flexibility to ride more than 1/2 the time in the drops even with the bars as high as they are.
Deraileur is in the parts bin. The bars were previously used on a multi-geared bike. I had seen a fake shifter for single speeds (can't find the site now). It's a fun opportunity to mess with folks who don't understand single speeds.
Fallon Nevada is my favorite place to ride this bike. Quiet roads both paved and 'natural', minor elevation changes that make fixed riding an adventure but not causing me to panic, chicken out or walk.

I use midge bars on my crosser. I find riding in the hoods to be fine, but a scad stretched out because the bar is intended to be set up to ride in the drops. Hence, the high riser. Climbing or standing and mashing in the hoods are both very good and those wide shallow drops are aces on a twisty steep dirt descent. Like 'em. And they weigh about the same as the Ritchey Biomax bars.
