How much should I pay for a Samson Track?

I found a Keirin racing Samson Track bike in my size and am wondering what the lowest offer I might expect to get the bike.

ok - my refresh sucks and I did not get a chance to be semi-serious.

Samson track frames run higher than some of the other Japanese track frames based on the lug work, if that matters to you/the buyers/the seller. For some reason, this makes the bike "worth more" to some - and Samson is considered one of the better builders in Japan for this style of bike. So, I would safely bet that this frame goes for 800-1100, depending on size. The color is pretty decent, but the image quality sucks, so I can't see any "authentic professional top tube racing dimples" or "ferrous time-based coloration."

If you want that frame - be prepared for $800ish minimum. For that $, I would get something you know will fit and that you can see in person before you buy.

I can tell you from the unposted hi-res pics, the frame has got some gorgeous lug work. not sure what you mean by racing dimples? I'm 5' 8" and kinda long in the torso, I typically ride a 51-52 cm frame, this one is 50.5cm. The price is unbelievable given what you guys have asserted.

for some reason, frames from 54 and up gather a higher price - due to common sizings. a good place to see what people will pay for a Japanese track frame is the keirinculture.com website

    racing dimple = dent
for some reason, folks were into paying 700+ for a dented frame. I never understood it, but it wasn't my money.

don't buy small. ever. it will come back to bite you. long stem and setback seatpost will only do so much to allow your longer torso the stretch it needs to be comfortable. save your dollars.

do you need to have this Samson? can you wait and get a frame size that you can ride comfortably?

I'd say 650-700 for it. I wouldn't pay more than 700 for a frame that's a 50.5. If it were say a 54 or higher, the seller could ask 750+.

to the OP, you can get a complete samson if you search hard enough and are patient for around 1100 shipped...

It's a private sale. Thanks for all the suggestions, they've been extremely helpful. For the price even if it is too small I'm sure I could unload fairly quick.

I was outbid in the last seconds on a gorgeous grey 57cm Samson w/ full Suntour Superbe groupo on ebay. The closing bid was $1050+50 shipping. I still regret not going to 1100 =/

it is pointless to speculate without knowing the condition and its history, age, etc. somewhere in the range of $100 to $800 probably.

i can't really tell from the photo quality, but that samson looks like it has fairly typical long shen lugwork. it looks like its got a 753 sticker, so the tubing is great, the chromed chainstay and the detail on the seatstays by the seat cluster is really nice, but i don't really see any particularly fancy lugwork.

pitboss, what am i missing on this samson?

i have a friend in SF with an M-idea keirin frame and holy hell, the lugwork is phenomenal.

man, look at the seatstay caps. that's ateast an $800 frame.

no seriously, the lugs are nice but not fancy...just awesome work and that's probably what 165 means.

What would make those Samson lugs any better than the ones on a $500-600 Keirin frame? They're not particularly ornate or anything...

I am not claiming that the lugs justify the price - I am saying that most kids that want one of these frames chat that aspect up first.
"oh, the lugs are awesome - it must be worth XXX dollars."
I have heard that a few times, meaning that it is purchased for how it looks, not how it performs in conjunction with a rider's body type and riding style.

Like I said - buy something else, that you know will fit (unless of course you are someone lucky enough to pre-ride a built up bike like this before buying it).

Owner wants 300 dollars for the frame

I'm likely to go ahead and buy based on the pictures, I haven't seen this kind of frame available in the states any where near that price range.

If I ever wanted to buy a frame for over 1000 bucks, it would definitely be a Kalavinka. That Samson looks nice, but I dont think I'd pay 800 for it. I got a white Levant keirin frame for $500 with no dents or rust, sugino 75 BB and a Chris King headset. Only some scratches and stuff but Im fine with that.

dude, what price are you paying for it than? i got a nice keirin frame w/ francy lug work (super-end style track ends / fork drop outs, etc.) for 580 shipped from japan, i figured that was a good deal for 55cm. how about you, scrounger?
