I make clear fenders out of 0.060 vacuum formed polycarb at work, and use spokes or aluminum rod for the stays, I like the aluminum for the stays a little better because I can scotch brite the rod, and spray on some matte clear, and they stay nice and brushed looking.
It's been raining alot here lately, so I gave my set to a friend who has no car, she just bikes it to work (she's pretty hot too)
Anyway we just got a new centrifugal forming machine in last week and fenders would be PERFECT for "orientation/set-up" (good thing my boss knows I do this ****) I will fab some up, and take pics once I install em.
The first time I made a set I used some camera lighting clasps so you could install and remove the fenders without tools,...those got stolen the first week, so now I use nyloc nuts, but I might even use torx fasteners for more thief resistance.
The front fender attatches to the back stub of my brake bolt, and the rear to the rear brake hole, and the fender eyelets on the dropouts.
I like the way they look because you can hardly see them until you get close, or until they get all muddy and greasy, but even then they look pretty cool, they are easy to remove and wash, the polycarb is nearly indestructable and they weigh next to nothing.

I'm kicking myself for giving martes (the hot MTB chick) my fenders, not only am I getting a wet dirty stripe up my back when I ride now, but I gots NO FENDERS to show you guys (I'm proud of em, cuz they look so cool)
anyway like I said, new forming machine, good opportunity to learn how to use it, and I get to make some fenders in the process,...
should have pix by tuesday, and it'll be raining all week so I need em.

Thanks, you're very kind. Yes, it is an awesome ride in any condition. Its geometry is pure road racing --I have the seat and bars set up identically to my Trek 5200 -- but sturdy enough to take on fire roads and levees. I can just fit 28mm tires in there without fenders.

FATTIESFITFINE = awesome fender space
A couple things, however:
1. Plastic fenders are so so, I'd love to be able to afford me a full coverage set of Fast Boy wood fenders or Berthounds/Honjos (metal).
2. Front fenders are too short, I made a temporary extension of waxed cardboard and duct tape for the remainder of this wet season.
3. Fenders and track drops make removing the rear wheel a pain in the ass. The unclippable rear fender trick that guy did above was pretty neat - otherwise I really like Steelwool Bike's idea with vertical drops and EBB's on their track frame.

Has anyone tried the new Velo Orange metal fenders? They cost about $38 and come fluted, smooth or satin anodized and look much longer than most fenders. They look like a nice alternative to Honjos for the money.

I don't see the fluted or smooth options, just the satin finish which is way less sexy than the Honjos. Plus, VO's only come in 45mm. I prefer Honjo's 35mm for clearance and because I only run 23s.

I see a lot of interesting fender installs on a lot of bikes. But I didn't see any of BD Hours or Messangers or Kilo TT's shown.
Has anyone installed fenders that run through the fork and seat stays on those bikes and what size tires are you able to run?
Sorry if I'm bringing back an old thread but at least it's a GOOD old thread.

My bike came with some pretty wood fenders, which I took off at the time (it was the middle of summer). The bike was $175 and definitely not worth it but knowing now how much a pair of legit wood fenders costs I'm pretty glad I have them. I put some red stain on them and lacquered them nicely and I get people asking me about them all the time.
I'm thinking about learning how to make them using steam infusion, because it seems like there'd be a lot of demand for them here in Boston.

there just kind of generic mtb fenders, i only use the back one though and i have it attached to the frame lower so it's right above my tire. They come off really easily so you can take them off when it's dry really fast but so can thieves...
