Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? vittoria rubino pros/white...gift

I'm after a belated holiday gift for a friend. I need some Vittoria Rubino Pros in white in 700/23 to match a nice old road frame. I know, wrong subforum, but I know this is where to go for fancy bike gear.

I don't think they make Michelin Pro Race 2 in white, do they?

*these are the only two tires I've ridden extensively, so I'm partial to them*

Looking to stay around $40. I've found them, but they are backordered with no idea of shipping date.

I've seen those go for $50-70 per tire on eBay. Are you set on the Rubinos because the entire tread is white, not just the sidewalls? Because if you don't care, I would recommend Soma Everwears. They're like $35, and incredibly tough, but probably kinda heavy. The white tread on Rubinos would get pretty ugly pretty fast, unless you're not planning on riding the bike.

EDIT: Maybe it's just Zaffiros with the fully white tread, I don't remember.

I posted this also on the Road forum:

Not Rubinos, but still under $40:

The Rubinos have a black center stripe, then white, then black near the rim meet-up. I am not set on any particular tire, but I have ridden these for many miles and think they give a good ride at a decent price.

For $10 the pro race 2's give an even more superior ride. Not availble in white though.

the vittoria evo open corsa cx tires are the ****ing ultrajam. they have one of the lowest rolling resistances on the market. i would, however, caution against using them on a bike that you're ever going to skid on. they are very soft and will wear very quickly.
