You still have to explain why you are masturbating though.

I just got a digi-cam and these are my first pics I know nobody on here has seen my bike yet so I figured I'd post 'em. I know the bike looks like it's been through wwII but i'm getting it painted again soon and this time it'll be powder coated so the paint will stick.

withnail. If it is not rusting, leave it like it is. Nothing beats an ugly bike with good components. A thief would steal a cheap mtb and leave yours alone.

You callin' my bike ugly!?!?!

hahah yah I'm worried about the whole rusting thing so I really feel it is necessary to paint it. Don't get me wrong I love the whole beat up street fighter look but I have to take care of this one, it's been good to me.

here are some pics of the old bike that I crashed this past summer. . . some of you may remember the story. The whold avoiding the kid only to get hit by a car because of it.

withnail. The reason I said that was not to put your ride down. This summer a thief or thieves used bolt cutters to steal bikes from the cage at work. Gone were two shiny mtbs with locks. Remaining was my ride, a late 70s conversion with all ultegra/600 bits.

No need to powdercoat to keep that frame from rusting, especially if you like its character marks. I'd rather see a bike (or anything, really) used but loved, rather than being kept in closet-perfect condition because it's never touched. Give that frame a good coat of clearcoat -- or flat, if that's your thing -- and you're good to go.

Edit: But then again, if your paint isn't holding on so well in the first place, a topcoat will probably just flake away as the base layer does. hmm... Maybe powdercoating is the better option. Your call...

i'm getting it done for like $40-50 in two colors. The front will be black and the chainstays from the wheel back will be in white. I can't afford a new bike so changing things is an easy way to make it feel new.

That Schwinn looks really nice!
With the straight forks, and to me, black and light blue always looks good together, as does light blue and chrome.

I can't quite tell from the pictures, but are your spokes crosses soldered? With big black things? Or am I looking at something else? They almost look like cable ties... What's going on here?

Where are you getting the powdercoating done so cheaply? I've called around in town and haven't gotten below $200. That would be worth shipping.

I used to race bmx for a factory team called MCS. I still know a lot of the guys that run the team and the company so they said that they would do for cost or maybe for free depending on how much time they have on their hands. The company made most of its money building a frame called the "mantis" it was a mini frame for kids racing bmx from the ages 5-9.
