Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I think he's referring to the combination of a fixed wheel and a chain tensioner, an un-recommended and dangerous combination if back pressure is applied to the pedals.

My bike after a cleaning and mini-tune up this weekend. Love the sunny/chilly days.

I like that a lot Tigerprawn. I just finished my conversion. It's my first bike build of any sort not to mention my first fixed gear. It was a blast to work on and I've been having even more fun riding it! Thank you guys for all the help throughout this project. I really appreciate that... I now offer it up to you to maliciously point out all of its faults and tear it to shreds!

Thanks again!
Tom

I really like your bike, Tom. Only thing that I'd even question just from a first glance is having a brake hood on the right but not on the left. You'd think if you won't ever ride on the hoods then you would have a bmx style lever in the middle, but you have one hood. Idk, maybe it works for you but it seems weird.

idk, it's pretty comfortable, and I'm getting track bars with white grips and white cable housing, so maybe it'll all go decent together.

Guys?

hey, everyone! i was planning on waiting until everything was done, but i decided to share a little early!

the preemptive defense

when i get the stem height dialed, ill cut the steerer tube. im in no rush, and id much rather take the measure twice, cut once approach on this change. of course, bar tape will be on later today. ive only heard good things about specialized bar phat so that may come down the road. im having some issues with getting the rolf free hub body off the rear matching the front. im determined to make it work so ill be putting penetrator on as long as necessary. the body is on good and tight so any tips to get it off would be surely appreciated! i really didnt like the idea of unmatched wheels, but the look is starting to grow on me so i hope that holds me over until i convert the rear. also, im installing a formula 18t cog later so the rear spacing may be an imperceptible smidge tighter, but the ride should be appreciably more enjoyable. though just a minor touch, im debating black spacers, cap, and collar.

i came across a strip of red reflective tape and decided to play around.

the functionality is there, but the aesthetic is dubious! ill keep it for a while and see how i feel about it.

now, shoot. aim for the head.

nice clean build. Like someone said, I'd personally go with a dif. brake lever, but w/e works for you.
I really want to find a panasonic sometime soon.

looks like your rear wheel is about to fall out of the drop out. I'd fix that asap.
