someone told me to post here

i got a chrome messenger bag.
well my dad got it for me for 60 dollars. i believe its a citizen
i didn't know about these bags until i looked at the site and it said 110 dollars.
i feel like its too small...i go to school i have a lot of books and i carry a laptop
i believe its 15"
and i commute 4 miles to school and 4 miles back.
so i dont know if i should tell my dad to go up a size or what.
and i'm a fairly small girl.

The bigger the bag is, the more you will put in it. Natural law of messenger bags.

But if someone else is buying, get all you can.

If your pops can exchange it, go with the metropolitan. I thought my old bag was big enough, but I love the extra space in my metro. If he can't exchange shoot me a PM, I might have a solution for you.

For what they're worth, you should give her both a small and large...

Edit-My 2 cents:

The Citizen and the like are good for carrying just the essentials. To carry other stuff it's always better to have a larger bag. I max out my Metropolis-sized bag half of the time.

If you're not biking, Kemmer's would probably work fine for you.. it's not too bad of a bag, although Chromes are undoubtedly of a higher quality.

I use my Citizen around school, and it fits plenty.. but I don't really need to carry more than one full size textbook + notebook + lunch + calculator + bike tools at a time. Anything more than that, and I could see it getting unwieldy. Just be aware that the Metropolis is very large. If you think of it relative to a backpack, the area it covers is larger because the depth is much smaller. If you're smaller than 5'8" it'd look a bit funny, but if you don't care...

My backside/Kemmer's bag rocks rather well for me. Granted I have some modifications and a few more in the pipeline to make it more useful for me.

That bad? PM me if you're really unhappy with it and we can work something out.

This is of no help to the OP but, I'm going to have to stick with everyone else, my Backside bag has held up quite well. Maybe I just don't use my bag as much as some of the people with the issues, but I haven't had a problem with the strap at all and in addition, it's been a great bag for ridding.

Yeah I use mine every single day and although the strap isn't the most easily adjustable, I would not spend the extra 70 dollars to get a Chrome. This really shouldn't devolve into a Kemmer bag thread though, there's 7 pages of it in the for sale section and another few threads about it in here.

I use these:

On the rear rack. They unhook in a couple of seconds. I can use them to go grocery shopping; Trek even calls them grocery bags. No problem hauling a couple of six packs, either.

The "fairly small" description might be a problem with the Metropolis. I'm 5'9", and that's already a large bag on me. Still, I love it since it rides well and it's roomy.

Panniers or rack bags like the one posted above are waaaay more comfortable than a mess bag or backpack. The downside is they're less handy when you're off the bike, and you need a rack on each bike if you ride more than one. But if you're on the bike for 4 mi and locking up close to your classes, it's a good option to consider.

do you know anyone that has a larger chrome bag?
get them to let you load theirs up with your stuff and then go ride around with it and walk around a bit with it, buy some stuff with it on and flip it around to see how it feels when you put something in it without taking it off...if you're a smaller frame then i could see the metropolis being a bit on the large side. maybe uncomfortable a little.
