I made a no no.
So i start sloppily pulling the junky black fenders off of my ruggedly good looking nishiki conversion so i can finally mount my Honjo-Koken 35s which have been sitting on my shelf for close to a year now.
the old fenders are plastic and beaten to ****, bent and re-bent twisted and cracked, so i had no reservations about folding them up so they'd fit in the trash. i was motivated and pretty happy to do so as i regrettably rode my bj vigorelli-- suntour superbe pro crankset, dura-ace headset, ti cinelli grammo pista, ti phil wood bb, eai superstar, izumi super toughness, so on, et al-- in the rain and sleet today and i'm sick of it. got new toe clips, bb and axle bolts and decided to finally mount the honjo fenders (right this time-- no toe overlap) and leave the bj for weekend rides.
measured the front fender, cut it nice and neat, folded everything over, got installation directions online... everything was measured and holes were drilled and lines were marked in pencil when i realized i was missing something:
I need one for the front, another for the back.
Awesome.
Whatever, velo-orange is just a click away-- except not for another eleven days:
Great.
I bet it snows tomorrow.

yep -- if you have a problem with the zip tie slipping against the frame/fork, then cut a small piece of old bicycle tube to put between the tie and the frame to add some friction.

Uh... you don't get it:
You use the bolt to connect the fender bracket/fender stay/fender whatever-you-wanna-call-it to the fender.
the fork/frame is already covered.
k, now you get it.

no need to be a ****** about it. you may still be able to rig a substitute using a zip tie.. use something like a nail or other long (at least double the diameter of the hole in the fender) slender object and place it inside of the fender so that it partially obstructs the hole. then slide the zip tie down through the top of the hole and then loop it down and back up through the hole, going around the nail and then the fender mount "wire", so that when you tighten up the zip tie, it will hold the nail against the inside of the fender and keep the fender in place. here is a super super ghetto diagram that fails to capture any perspective, but may clear up ambiguities:
edit: it might be worth taping the nail against the inside of the fender when you are done so as to prevent it from potentially sliding.

i appreciate your idea, but i think i'm going to wait for the hardware instead. the idea of taping nails to fenders and using zip ties to hold everything together is way too much risky business and half-assedry for a fast moving bike in the rain.
ps, didn't mean to be rude, sorry if i came off that way.

yeah, it's definitely ghetto-rig city, but would be serviceable in a pinch (e.g. should it snow a ton tomorrow).

Couldn't you just go to a real store? Is there no one in town that will be open between now and the time the online store starts shipping (and have the hardware you need)?

some new kind of kick
could try to see if Jitensha Studio would ship you one--
if someone hasn't mentioned this already. They stock
the Honjos.
